You should not miss the following excursion destinations on your next holiday in and around Salzburg

More and more people are foregoing excursions to faraway countries and instead travel to the most beautiful places in their home country. To give you a little inspiration for your next holiday within Austria, we have put together 6 popular destinations for your upcoming cultural or leisure holiday in Salzburg and the surrounding area!

1. Zell am See

Zell am See is probably the most popular destination for winter sports enthusiasts near Salzburg. But the idyllic municipality offers something for every season: not only the historic town centre with its parish church of St. Hippolyt and Rosenberg Castle invites you to linger, but also Lake Zell itself is one of Austria's tourist destinations. Surf or sail on the crystal-clear water against a breathtaking backdrop - or jump into the fresh water yourself.

2. fortress Hohensalzburg

Salzburg's landmark sits majestically on the fortress hill above the city. The largest completely preserved castle in Central Europe is the most visited sight in Austria outside Vienna - and not without reason. Arriving there on foot or by fortress train, you begin your journey into the past. Exciting museums, medieval architecture, dedication to Salzburg's baroque cultural landscape and a lot of attention to detail make your trip here unforgettable. Immerse yourself in the world of the princes and bishops of the Middle Ages!

3. outlet centre Eben

Our Eben Outlet Centre in Eben im Pongau is this year's hottest shopping insider tip! Situated close to the Salzburg Slate Alps, the Tauern Outlet has been set in a picturesque backdrop, making the walk to the outlet itself ravishingly pretty. Once you've arrived, you can spend an extensive day shopping here and stock up on new brand-name clothes - and you don't even have to dig deep into your wallet.
What's more, it's not just everyday clothes that you'll find here: We'll equip you with high-quality sportswear, whether you're a hiker, cyclist, climber or passionate about winter sports.

4 Salzwelten Hallein

This salt mine is only half an hour away from Salzburg and offers a unique insight into the history of white gold. Celtic tribes knew about this mining site as early as 2500 years ago, and even in the 17th century the mine's yields were still being used to expand Salzburg's city centre. All dry history? Not at all! Here you will experience a ride on the mine train, long miners' slides, mystical paths through the salt galleries and even a raft trip on an underground salt lake. After your cave exploration, you can visit the Celtic village, an open-air museum that takes you on a journey to the world of two and a half millennia ago.

5 Berchtesgaden National Park

Of course, we also have something up our sleeve for all the hikers among you! Directly in the south of Salzburg is the Berchtesgaden National Park, which belongs to Germany. Its expansive landscapes and fresh, soothing air provide the perfect scenery for a healing hike. That's why it's not just us humans who feel at home there: snow hares, capercaillies, salamanders and even ibex bring life to the national park. And who knows - maybe even a marmot or two will greet you.

6. the Dachstein mountains

Climbing is more than just a sport - it's conquering ancient giants. One of these giants is very close to Salzburg, and not far from our outlet either! As the highest mountain in Upper Austria and Styria, the Dachstein offers an incomparable climbing experience: with the "Randkluft", the oldest via ferrata in the Eastern Alps, several children's & youth via ferrata routes and the popular Jungfrausteig, everyone will find the adventure their heart desires. The view from the "Brandriedel", a famous vantage point above Ramsau, was once described by the mountaineer and writer Kurt Maix with the words: "At the foot of the wall, however, a land spreads out, so paradisiacally beautiful that the Lord God must have created it in a giving mood" - and there is nothing more to add to this.
